Today marked the end of my first full week of FIDM. I can already tell it’s going to be a packed quarter. Lots of projects and homework assignments left and right. I am glad I have a consistent 4 day weekend to work on it all. Love all my classes and excited for the projects. They’re definitely going to challenge me, but that’s what I signed up for. This is the fourth college I’ve attended in the last 6 years and it’s easily my favorite. I love that they include the cost of supplies and books in your tuition so on the first day of classes, you go downstairs and they just hand you everything you need for the course. I’ve gotten a bunch of pens, drawing pads, tracing paper, presentation boards, rulers, a few books, a pantone bridge, and even an external harddrive. Pretty sweet. I don’t think I’ve ever been so enthusiastic about school before. :) Bring it on, FIDM.

If FIDM is 28th on this list, I can’t imagine how bad the schools are that are ranked lower than us TBQH…….. Last year when I went to Japan, I went to Bunka for a campus tour and there was a room full of dresses that first year students made and I can honestly tell you that I am no where near capable of making dresses that complex. (For that, I’m going to call bullshit on FIDM’s whole ~*~*”we’re trying to cram a 4 year curriculum to a 2 year program” since if that was true I should be able to make those dresses with my eyes closed) Since I’m going back next year before my final quarter, I should get information just in case I want to transfer.
On the second day of Orientation, David Foat came in with three of his students/alumni, I think, and spoke about the four actions of FIDM.
Focus.
Inspire.
Demonstrate.
Make a difference.
In order to make a difference, you have to remain focus on your education. Get rid of distractions and all the negativity in your life. Be inspired by those around you and demonstrate what you’ve learned. With this in mind, you’ll be able to reach success and make a difference.
